BEVERLEY FOLK FESTIVAL COMPETITION WINNER (‘NORTHERN’ RAIL MAGAZINE – SPRING/SUMMER EDITION
WRITTEN BY WINNER: GEORGINA TIERNEY
Earlier this year, I spotted a competition for the festival in a Northern Rail magazine and thought I would enter. At the end of May, I received a phone call from Laura Mills, Festival Administrator to tell me that I had won 2 Full Weekend Passes inc Camping for the BEVERLEY FOLK FESTIVAL. This was the start of the adventure.. and what an adventure it turned out to be.. I wasn't sure what to expect as I hadn't been to a festival before or actually done any camping.. I set off on the train in the afternoon of 18th June with my granddaughter Kirsty and all we could carry between us..
We arrived and had just a short walk to the campsite where we were helped with everything, even putting up the tent..
There was a great atmosphere right from the start.. We got a programme and couldn't believe how much was really going on. It was going to be difficult to see everything but we did our best. We met up with Laura and went to watch Eddi Reader which was very exciting and we watched several other artists that night before turning in for the night. Saturday was a cold and very windy day but it didn't dampen our spirits. We visited the Craft Fair and watched other artists throughout the day and well into the evening.. Sunday was a much brighter day, we walked into the town and watched lots of the very different dancing troups then back to the site where there was the Maypole, which involved everybody, including Laura.. In the evening we watched the finale show with The Proclaimers finishing off an absolutely wonderful weekend.. This was an experience we will remember always with fond affection.. Kisty and myself would like to thank everyone who made this weekend so special for us including all the artists that we managed to watch, also the stewards Derrick and Jeannie and special thanks to Laura..
