NICK & HELEN STUBBS

Nick is well known locally – having played numerous instruments in various groups over the years. His once ‘solo’ act now includes wife Helen and occasionally a mandolin/guitar  player, with a well stocked collection of covers and self-penned material.

VAL MARSHALL BAND

Local singer-songwriter Val Marshall has released two CDs to great acclaim- each getting airplay from no less than BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris- who also invited her to the studio for a live session earlier this year. Well crafted songs well performed.

ROB NICKLAS

Rob fronts local band Mean Eyed Cat but also turns in a great solo act with a selection of his own well crafted self-penned songs and some great covers. His dry sense of humour and charm soon has audiences singing along.

JESS GARDHAM

York-based singer songwriter Jess recently won a place on the BBC Radio 2 New Talent Songwriting Academy - one of only 60 finalists from 3,000 entries. She has also shared stages with international stars KT Tunstall, Kathryn Williams, and the legendary Tony Joe White. Influenced by folk and soul, Jess's music has a wide ranging appeal as her debut album ‘Beyond Belief’ demonstrated. It showcased her contrasting styles from ‘chilled out acoustic’ to ‘funky, feel-good tunes’

CIRCUS ENVY

Circus Envy are a rootsy five piece band based in East Yorkshire, with a sound equally influenced by classic rock, folk rock and Americana. The group delight audiences when playing both electrically and acoustically and their debut Album “Take Me Home” had rave reviews both locally and nationally. Their new EP “A New Dawn” was produced by Megson’s Stuart Hannah which has led to national radio coverage and festival slots.

JESS BANNISTER

Young singer songwriter Jess won Hull Daily Mail’s Talent Trail competition a couple of years back and since has been a great asset to the festival. Not only has she participated in TCT sessions and Main Stage appearances – but also helped to promote the festival through Acoustic Treasures shows and other promo events. She writes great songs and also has a fine selection of covers to hand from the likes of influential performers KT Tunstall and James Morrison.

STUART NEGUS

Stuart’s highly acclaimed debut album featured a fantastic array of musical guests, including Thea Gilmore, Michael McGoldrick, Edwina Hayes and John Kirkpatrick . His abilities as a singer and songwriter are outstanding – great songs wonderfully sung.

PAUL LIDDELL

Paul’s one man show and self effacing style combined with his powerful and unpretentious delivery continues to earn him many new fans at live performances. His quirky songs pack a solid punch both lyrically and musically, presented with a unique guitar style and compelling vocals.

STEPH FRASER

Steph Fraser is a highly promising singer and writer with an incredibly mature sound for someone who has only been performing for just three years. She was chosen to perform at the Blackpool Illuminations ceremony in 2007 alongside Natalie Imbruglia and McFly, has already landed a record deal and toured Canada twice – without doubt someone to watch out for.

ABBIE LAMMAS

A prodigiously talented singer-songwriter, Hornsea's Abbie Lammas might only be in her teens, but she's cranking out songs that are mightily mature for her age. Coming on like a cross between Avril Lavigne, Dolores O’Riordan and Amy McDonald, her strong and confident stage presence is the perfect vehicle for her great songs.

DANNY LANDEAU

Young Hull-based singer-songwriter Danny is always keen to acknowledge the input of the musicians that form his band but it is his own energetic and individual style that sets this act apart. Danny was inspired by the music of Paolo Nutini after touring with him and there are subtle clues to that in some of the songs- whilst still being individualistic and instantly recognisable.

REBEKAH FINDLEY

Singer and multi-instrumentalist based in North Yorkshire. Repertoire of music includes self penned and traditional songs, tunes and a few carefully selected covers. A contemporary sound immersed in the elements of traditional music. KLONDIKE SONG OF THE YEAR 2008 WINNER with "Duty Bound", the story of a lonely lighthouse keeper who chooses his work over love.

MILES CAIN

Miles Cain is an eclectic and spirited York-based singer-songwriter. His album "A Way Of Being Free" is a collection of work that reflects his take on life and well worth a listen. Miles hosts and organises the highly successful late night Festival ‘Club’ sessions during the festival weekend - where he will also be strapping on his guitar and performing too.

DREAMS OF APOLLO

With a love of mythology, music and storytelling, this band sing of subjects as diverse as frustration and joy backed with appropriate sounds that include rocky riffs and heavy beats. mixed with country, folk and pop influences.

ANNA SHANNON

Since being awarded BBC Radio “Yorkshire Songwriter of the Year” in August 2006 Anna has been forging a steady path into the folk singer-songwriter scene, appearing at numerous venues and festivals including Whitby, Fylde, Wimbourne, Otley, Dent, Holmfirth, where she has captivated her audiences with her original songs, covering a vast range of subjects.“A singer / songwriter of the highest calibre. Her thoughtful and imaginative guitar accompaniment is a true match to these fine songs”

Martyn Wyndham-Read

EDWINA HAYES

EDWINA has a growing army of admirers and her second album ‘Pour me a Drink’ confirmed her rising star status. Her solo shows are a pleasing blend of well crafted songs - beautifully sung and played – coupled with a natural charm that audiences everywhere find appealing.

JONNY DOBBS

Jonny's abilities are always evident as his unique and husky voice orchestrates the dexterous riffs and emotive melodies that he creates. His songs have immediate access but if the listener pays more than passing interest there is lot to be discovered beneith his ‘light and dark’ acoustic sounds.

ANDY STONES

ANDY STONES is a musician and songsmith of the highest calibre. His percussive finger picking style of guitar play unleashes intricate patterns of notes and melodies it does not seem possible to produce with just one guitar - he is technically superb. His songwriting and vocal ability takes the listener on a journey through memories and experiences, many would need an essay to express.

DAN WEBSTER

Dan Webster makes music that sits effortlessly in folk, folk-rock and modern popular song all at once. This is music that could appeal to folkies but also to fans of acoustic pop like Badly Drawn Boy or modern indie folk like Adem or James Yorkston. He's clearly his own man writing songs that express some singular personal perspective whilst capturing those fleeting moments of magic that we can all identify with.

TWO

Helen Turner and Sharon Winfield have played together for long enough to have developed a natural style for presenting their music - yet they still sound fresh and keen to impress. Expect well written songs – with tight harmonies and complimentary guitar playing.

BOSS CAINE

A folk/Americana collective from York. This tight knit line-up of musicians centres around the songs of front man Daniel Lucas backed up by Sam Forrest and Andy Gaines. Over the last couple of years they have shared stages large and small all over the UK with such acts as Arlo Guthrie, Laura Viers, and Guillemots.
